I have been watching too many anime from KyoAni and this includes Air and Kanon 2006 that it got me interested as to where these series was taken from. Enter the realms of the Visual Novel. They are RPG Games unlike no other focusing more on the story rather than on the action itself. You'll be reading a lot of lines when playing these games. Seems boring? Not really since it's just like watching hyper-animated anime. It's more like reading a colored manga than playing a game except that you have some sort of control on the story.
If you are still confused as to what the heck Visual Novels are..well…*ehem*…for the sake of simplicity, they're also called H-game. There you go, everything clear now?
Am I a pervert? No. Most people would think that these games are all about sex, sex and even more sex. Well, people buy them for that but there's a select few who buy or, in my case, download them for a different reason -the story.
Unlike the H-anime where they "do it" for no apparent reason, the visual novels doesn't have its core on these sexually stimulating scenes but rather the visual novel's core is its story. Currently, I have played Air, Kanon and SHUFFLE! and played them because I have watched their anime adaptations. Two of these visual novels, Air and Kanon, are probably two of the saddest and most beautifully written story in anime. Opinions may vary but for me these two are included in the best anime of all time. I almost cried watching the anime adaptions of those two visual novels.
Another thing about visual novels is the art. I, being a frustrated artist, can't help but be amazed by just how great an amount of work is being put on these visual novels. The backgrounds are full of details even those little ones and the characters have expressions for all occassion. Looking at those gives me the motivation to draw.
Well I guess that's it for the Visual Novel stuff. I think I have more to say but maybe later, damn I'm really drowsy.
